In January, I talked about applying for the Volunteer Corps (
read here). Out of 34 applicants, I was one of the 7 they chose to interview. The interview process started on Tuesday night with a dinner with the Board of Directors (me + 8 old people deciding my fate + 3 hours = scary as hell). Yesterday and today I've been applying with the different agencies that I would want to work for that are affiliated with the Volunteer Corps. Most of the organizations are working with the homeless. I have to be accepted to the Volunteer Corps program on two fronts: 1. I have to be chosen by one of the agencies I want to work for and 2. I have to be accepted by the church to be a member of the Volunteer Corps and get the chance to even work with the agencies. It's a complicated process, but to sum it up - now there are 5 of us vying for 3 spots and I'm going to find out early next week if I got in.
Bottom line: I want this reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally badly for three major reasons:
1. It will give me full-time employment for a year until I go to grad school.
2. It will give me free housing so I can move out of my parent's house (yay!).
3. It will give me experience and look good on my resume for grad school.
Basically, it's effing PERFECT. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I waaaaaant it.
So please send some prayers, good vibes, and crossed phalanges my way. Thanks.

that would be so awesome! And great work experience, too! I hpoe you get it!
Kara, I hope you get the job It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you. Experiences like that really do give you different perspectives on things. Would this still be in the city or would you have to move?
Tiptoe - it would still be in the city.
Good luck! I really, really, really, really hope that you get the job! I'm sending you amazingly good vibes! :)
love, kristin
yup! I'm sending you everything you asked for and more....
I really hope that you get it!! I'm rooting for you
I'm freaking out. I'm really paranoid that I'm not going to get in. I'm already getting depressed and preparing myself for the worst. I don't know why I'm doing this to myself - I guess I just feel like nothing ever works out for me, why would it now? If I don't get this I'm going to be crushed.
Oh Kara! I hope you get it because it does sound like an amazing opportunity.
However, just reading your last comment...even if you don't get in, you've made it this far...MUCH further than a lot of other candidates! At the end of the day, you do have as good a chance as anyone else, so keep hoping because regardless what happens, you may as well enjoy the excitement and anticipation now.
Ooooh *waits in anticipation with fingers, toes crossed and many prayers being said*
Love Telly xo
I hope this works out for you! It's great that you were one of the 7 out of 34. :)
I hope it works for you too. What is the church approval thing all about?
GOOD LUCK HONEY! Although I am sure you don't need luck because you are amazing! I am sending good thoughts your way - keep us updated! It sounds like an amazing opportunity!
Krista, I have to be accepted by this church because they sponsor the program.
